Digital Equity can mean many things but when the school year approaches, we think of students and equipping them with the school supplies they need, and computers are high on the list. It’s August, and that means that the 2024-25 school year is just a few weeks away! Many students starting this year will need computers for their schoolwork. Our mission since we started in1997, has been to empower students to reach their educational and life goals through access to technology and digital literacy training.
For almost 30 years, Mission: Ignite (aka Computers For Children, Inc.) has participated innumerous STEM programs aimed at students and teachers alike, with a focus on those that are particularly in need or underserved. Many schools will know of us for the computer learning labs invested in schools throughout Western New York as well as our programs that encourage interested teens to participate in our Tech360 program which engages young people to learn about both hardware concepts like rebuilding computers, as well as software applications that help them throughout high school, college and careers.
If you look at us by the numbers, since 1997, we’ve invested almost 40,000 computers in schools and programs that support our WNY communities. Further, we look to our network of nonprofit partners who also provide educational support and services and celebrate longstanding partnerships like "Say Yes to Education – Buffalo".
